I am a physician specializing in Internal Medicine, as well as Public Health and Preventive Medicine. I entered the field of public heath 30 years into my medical career. This change of focus occurred out of my personal frustration over the poor health outcomes of my patients despite access to good medical care. I discovered that traditional medicine did not address all of their health needs. If my patients live in dilapidated buildings and don't have access to healthy food it doesn't matter how many medications I prescribe. I have a particular interest in health issues related to low health literacy. I am also interested in the health care needs of the homeless and issues related to human trafficking. I've recently retired from the VA Hospital and am volunteering at a local rescue mission free clinic. I am also on faculty at the University at Albany School of Public Health, in the department of Social and Behavioral Health. After going on several international medical mission trips my public health interest expanded to include global health. I've been to Nicaragua, Honduras, Ecuador, Ghana and 4 times to Haiti.
