Douglas Perry, of Madison, Indiana, had a long and successful career in higher education as a scientist, professor, and senior academic administrator. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts from Excelsior University (then Regents External Degree Program) in 1978. Perry went on to earn an M.S. in Health Sciences for Stony Brook University (SUNY), an M.A. in Biology from The City College of New York (CUNY), and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. His career in higher education spans from an appointment as instructor at a small, private undergraduate college to tenured full professor at a major public research university. As a federally funded research scientist, he published more than 40 professional works and served as a member of various professional organizations. As an academic leader, Perry was the one of the principal founders of the Indiana University School of Informatics (2000) and the founding dean of the College of Informatics at Northern Kentucky University (2006). Perry retired at Vice President for Academic Affairs at Indiana Tech.
Since graduating in 1978, Perry has been a generous donor to Excelsior University. He is a giving member of the President’s Circle and recognized as part of the Purple and Gold Society. He hopes his thorough understanding of higher education can be an asset to the Alumni Leadership Council to help continue advancing the profile of Excelsior University through developing alumni engagement and support.
