Ruth Lown Turman
Ruth Lown Turman, of Columbia, South Carolina, is a senior sales operations manager for Optum Serve of United Health Group. Her career has spanned the banking, technology, and health insurance industries, with roles including ACH coordinator, database administrator, systems analyst and designer, project and product delivery manager, business process consultant, and senior proposal manager. In her current role, she provides c-suite-level executive reporting, process design and automation, and business development life cycle governance. Turman is a fellow of and holds a proposal practitioner certification from the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP) and is a professional of the Academy of Healthcare Management. She served on the APMP International Board of Directors, has been an APMP international conference proctor, chaired the 175th anniversary committee of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, and volunteered in the Development Office of Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary (now part of Lenior-Rhyne University). She is a third-generation Melvin Jones Fellow of the Lions Club International. She joined Excelsior’s Alumni Leadership Council in 2023 and has served as its secretary. Turman chairs the Excelsior University Alumni Association’s Legacy and Ambassadors committee and, as a donor, is a member of the Excelsior President’s Circle and the Purple and Gold Society. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems in 1996 from Excelsior University (then Regents College).
