The Department Chair is a member of the Excelsior University faculty and has authority for the delivery of academic programs in accordance with College and University strategic plan, mission, vision and values as a guiding compass; hiring and evaluation of faculty in various roles, and the coordination of departmental budgeting and resource management. The authority of this position is subject to approval by the Executive Dean of the College, the Dean or Associate Dean of the School and the Provost. As a member of the school administration, the Chair coordinates departmental activity with the activities of other units in the College and at the University. As a change leader, the Chair works in collaboration with other members of the administration to drive student success and assists in the development and implementation of School and College initiatives across multiple modalities. As a member of the faculty, this role has teaching responsibilities commensurate with the scale and scope of the size of the department. This position will report to the Associate Dean of the respective School or the Executive Dean's determined designee.

This position is based out of the university's home office in Albany, NY with the option of considering remote candidates. Remote employees will have mandatory occasional travel for meetings, conferences, and professional development opportunities. Remote employees are expected to be available during work hours 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Eastern time. The University will supply necessary equipment to perform the essential functions of this job (e.g., Laptop, docking station). Employees are responsible for having a workspace where they can participate in virtual meetings without multiple interruptions and noise.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Department Administration
  • Strategic and operational leadership consistent with the college and university goals
  • Departmental liaison within the school; ensure departmental compliance with rules, regulations, and standards of School, College, University, State, and institutional and specialized accreditors.
  • Knowledge and experience working with accrediting agencies, preferably nursing education accreditors, including leading degree programs through successful site visits.

    Department Curriculum
  • Curriculum development, alignment and revisions for the department in conjunction with university priorities, guidelines, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and engagement in curriculum development and course design in coordination with university instructional design unit
  • Review and assess academic programs according to established university guidelines, metrics, regulatory compliance, and specialized accreditation requirements.

    Operational Leadership and Management
  • Coordinate and monitor program pathways and course schedules, with the support of the Assistant Dean, to ensure program and student success in alignment with established university-criteria, regulatory compliance, and specialized accreditation requirements
  • Manage course registrations and instructor assignments in accordance with university-set benchmarks and quality metrics
  • Utilize and translate data benchmarks and generate reports on goal specific metrics to drive results Faculty development

    Faculty Responsibilities
  • Has teaching responsibilities with workload model
  • Maintain a scholarly agenda in alignment with university and college and strategic priorities
  • Engage department faculty in university and community service activities as appropriate

    • An earned doctorate, preferably in nursing, curriculum and instruction, assessment, program evaluation, institutional research, higher education administration or related field from a regionally accredited United States institution or an equivalent, nationally recognized foreign institution of higher learning-preferred.
    • Master of Science (Nursing)
    • Active and unencumbered RN license.
    • Ability to obtain a New York RN license.
    • Minimum of seven years of teaching experience (online and onsite) in registered nursing program(s).
    • Must have experience in a faculty role and supervision of faculty
    • Preferred prior leadership of an Associate Degree Program
    The hiring salary range for this position is $100,000.00 - $107,000.00. The hiring salary range above represents the University's good faith estimate at the time of posting.
